JAMMU, May 19: Curfew was relaxed for one and half hours each by dividing Bhaderwah town into two parts on fourth day today while the civil and police administration, for the first time since disturbances, convened joint meeting of the two communities, who gave assurance of peace.
SSP Doda Shabir Ahmed Malik told the Excelsior that curfew was relaxed in Bhaderwah town in two phases today. In half of the town, curfew was relaxed from 3.30 pm to 5 pm while in rest of the town, relaxation was given from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.
Relaxation period passed off peacefully, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Sagar Doifode and the SSP Doda convened a joint meeting of majority and minority communities in Bhaderwah in which representatives assured to maintain peace even if curfew is relaxed tomorrow, sources said, adding authorities will take decision on curfew relaxation tomorrow morning depending on the situation.
Doifode has, meanwhile, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of 52-year old Nayeem Shah, which will be conducted by Sub Divisional Magistrate, Mohammad Anwar Bandey.
The SDM will also carry out an inquiry into stone throwing, clashes and vandalism that took place in the town after the killing. He will furnish factual report along with specific comments within 7 days to the DC Doda to facilitate further necessary action.
Curfew was imposed in Bhaderwah and Army called out on Thursday morning following violence after the killing of Nayeem Shah by unidentified persons.
