JAMMU, Apr 9: In order to start its activities from the Ganderbal campus at the earliest, the Central University of Kashmir is planning to raise the pre-engineered buildings.
This information was provided by Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture, Priya Sethi to the Legislative Assembly in reply to the calling attention notice of Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar.
She said that land measuring 3321 kanals and two marlas has been acquired for establishment of the Central University of Kashmir at Ganderbal and an amount of Rs 20.61 crore has been released on account of compensation of the land acquired for establishment of the University.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has claimed completion of some works but the University has not accepted the same citing certain deficiencies in the works especially related to Soil Investigation and Contour Mapping.
“Due to poor performance of the CPWD in executing the projects assigned to it, the University initiated the process of engaging an alternative Project Management Consultant (PMC) by floating Expression of Interest (EoI) at National Level, which was open to all public sector units involved with execution of construction works”, the Minister said, adding after following a transparent and competitive process, the University has selected M/s NBCC Limited as its PMC for the execution of all other construction projects.
The University selected an architect through Architectural Design Competition and the selected architect is working on the drawings, plans, BOQs of the buildings to be constructed in the Phase-I of the campus development, she said, adding site office has been constructed at the campus to provide logistic support to the University official involved in the construction work.
