Jammu, Sept 1: The 14th Executive Council Meeting of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) was held at varsity campus in Raya Suchani, Samba.
The meeting started with Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Ashok Aima welcoming the members of the Executive Council.
He also presented a brief status report of academic, research and infrastructural development in last three years.
The council was informed about the appointment of Former Ambassador, G. Parthasarathy as the 2nd Chancellor of the University.
The VC informed that during the period under report, emphasis was on strengthening the existing academic programmes and infusing a strong rigor into the ongoing research initiatives.
He informed that 45 programmes across different disciplines being offered by the varsity.
“Apart from this UGC in August 2018 has sanctioned B. Voc (Banking and Financial Services) and four new courses-Makeup, Tourism, Retail and Fashion Designing-cum-Tailoring under Community College,” the VC informed.
He said that during last three years total resource mobilization for academic and research activities were over 25 crores. At present 52 research projects are under progress.
The Vice Chancellor informed the house that sincere efforts are going on to fill the vacant teaching and non-teaching positions.
VC informed about international and national collaborations of the University to uplift the standards of teaching and research in the University.
The Council was apprise that though the University is in its nascent stage but still on account of academic and research output University NAAC, Bangalore has accredited University as B++ Grade and scored 2.88 ahead of eight newly established Universities.
On the occasion council Members suggested that convocation should be held every year and accordingly next convocation will be held in August 2019.
After the report Dr. Ravi Kumar, Registrar presented the agenda items for consideration of the Council. Apart from approving the appointments of teaching and teaching posts Council took major decisions for establishing New Departments and Research Centers in the University.
Dr. K Radakrishnan proposed that Centre for Space Science be renamed after the name of Great Indian Space Scientist and son of the soil Prof. Satish Dhawan as a tribute to the renowned space scientist. Under this project ISRO will provide Rs 20 crores for setting-up high end labs.
The VC expressed gratitude to Dr. Jatindera Singh, MOS, PMO and Dr K. Radhakrishnan for supporting the initiative of the University in setting up Space Application Centre at CUJ.
Meeting was attended eminent academicians including Padamshree Prof. K.L Chopra, Former Director IIT-Kharagpur; Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman, ISRO; Prof. M.I Haque, Former Chairman and Dean, FMSR, AMU; Prof. Ashok Ogra, Director, Apeejay School of Mass Communications and others.
