JAMMU, Feb 1: Students of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) today held a protest against the administration of the University for hiking the bus fare.
Hundreds of students of various streams and semesters today assembled on main road near the University campus and held a demonstration while raising slogans against the administration. The protesting students said that a circular has been issued by the Administration of the University against the students’ demand of roll back of bus fare hike.
“According to the circular, each student must pay an amount of Rs 1000 per month to avail the complete bus service or free bus service which will be provided to them only from Rahya Morh to the University,” they said, adding that the administrative authorities failed to understand that there is no local stop at Rahya Morh and so the students have only one option to stop at Jakh and then take lift to reach Rahya Morh.
The students said that they are being pressurized by the CUJ Administration to pay the fee in the mid of the session, lest they will be not allowed to sit in their upcoming mid-semester examination. They said that the website and the prospectus of the University have not been updated by the authorities with any of the changes in the fee structure while hostel building is yet to be completed.
Later, Professor NK Tripathi and Dean Students Welfare, Dr Deepak Pathania stepped forward to talk and on their assurance, the students suspended their protest but warned of starting the protest again if their demands are not fulfilled.
