CU Jammu hosts IUAC acquaintance program

JAMMU, Mar 26: Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences, Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi, organized a one day acquaintance program on ‘Accelerator Based Research’, here today.
Inaugural function of the program was graced by Vice-Chancellor, CUJ, Prof Ashok Aima. Prof Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator, Deans and Heads of different departments, distinguished guest from IUAC- Dr Ambuj Tripathi and Rajiv Mehta and invited speakers from University of Jammu, Prof Arun Bharti and Prof S K Khosa, Senior Professor of Physics, CUJ and Dr Tanuj Kumar, Department of Nano Sciences and Materials, CUJ were also present during the function.
Dr Vinay Kumar, HoD Physics and Astronomical Sciences and convener of the program, summarized the audience about the event. Main aim of the program was to bring awareness about the various facilities and opportunities in research which are available at IUAC, New Delhi.
In his presidential remarks, Prof Aima emphasized on the importance of holding such events so as to bring together the faculty/research scholars of CUJ and scientists from different disciplines of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Material Sciences at a joint platform for establishment of long lasting fruitful collaboration in the field of accelerator based research.
During the First Scientific session, Rajiv Mehta introduced all participants with the accelerator facilities available at their centre. It was followed by second lecture by Prof Arun Bharti from JU on ‘Nucleus and its behaviour’. Prof S K Khosa provided insight on ‘nuclei for sustained development.’ Dr Ambuj Tripathi explored the potential of Material research activities in the Centre. He also introduced the audience with the various modules and short term courses for PG and Ph D students offered by the Centre. Dr Tanuj Kumar delivered a talk on ‘Synthesis and Engineering of Nanostructures by Ion Beams’. He highlighted the importance of ion beam radiations to tailor the properties of materials. This was followed by a fruitful discussion among IUAC representatives and participants.
