JAMMU, July 31: The lone CT Scan machine of Chest Diseases Hospital, Jammu is lying non-functional for last more than 10 days due to which visiting patients are suffering badly, particularly those who cannot afford to go to private CT Scan centres.
According to official sources, hundreds of patients every day visit the CD Hospital, Jammu for the treatment of various chest diseases and many of them have to undergo CT Scan but as the CT Scan machine of the hospital is not in working condition for last more than 10 days, the patients are being referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
They said the GMCH Jammu is already overburdened with huge rush of patients after the closure of PPP mode CT Scan unit, therefore the concerned technicians are compelled to give them dates for the test instead of conducting the test on the same day.
Sources said that those who can afford, prefer to go to private CT Scan centers while the poor and downtrodden are bound to wait for the given date by the CT Scan technicians in GMCH, as these tests are too costly for them.
According to the sources, a CT Scan study costs between Rs 900 to Rs 1500 in the Government Hospitals while the cost of the same is almost double in the private CT Scan centres. They said that while poor patients are suffering badly due to non-functioning of the machine the administration of CD Hospital are sleeping over the issue.
When contacted, Incharge Medical Superintendent of CD Hospital, Jammu, Dr Ramesh Gupta said the CT Scan machine of the hospital is in working condition but there is some problem in UPS of the machine. He said that they are not conducting any test on the machine only as a precautionary measure because the machine is very costly and if we use the machine without UPS support, it may damage.
When asked why they are taking so much time in replacing or repairing the UPS, he said that they have written many times to the company for replacing/repairing the UPS but due to some payment issue they are not coming. He said that as the issue is connected with patient health care, he has submitted a complaint against the private company in police station Bakshi Nagar.
