Jammu : CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine hosted an important scientific interaction and collaborative meeting with renowned international scientist Prof. Serge Mignani, marking another significant step towards advancing global partnerships in drug discovery research.
Prof. Serge Mignani, an internationally acclaimed scientist and former Head of Medicinal Chemistry and Scientific Director at Sanofi, met with Director Dr. Zabeer Ahmed and the research team of CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine to discuss ongoing collaborative research initiatives in the areas of anti-tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery, oncology, inflammation, and CMS disease research.
During the interaction, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed welcomed Prof. Serge Mignani to the institute and emphasized the importance of international scientific collaborations in accelerating innovative healthcare solutions and advancing translational research in critical disease areas.
The meeting focused on strengthening Indo-French scientific cooperation under collaborative research programmes aimed at developing next-generation therapeutic agents against tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.
Prof. Mignani is widely recognized for his outstanding contributions to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical research.
He earned his PhD from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and later worked with eminent scientists in the United States before joining Sanofi, where he led several major drug discovery programmes.
Over the course of his distinguished career, he has contributed to more than 200 scientific publications and holds nearly 180 patents.
Several compounds developed under his leadership have reached clinical trials, including one commercially available therapeutic product.
At CSIR-IIIM Jammu, Prof. Mignani is associated with the institute’s Drug Discovery Division and is collaborating closely with leading scientists on the development of novel anti-TB agents.
He also interacted with researchers, scholars, and students, sharing valuable insights into modern drug discovery approaches, translational research, and the growing importance of industry-academia partnerships in pharmaceutical innovation.
Speaking during the interaction, Prof. Mignani appreciated the scientific ecosystem and research capabilities at CSIR-IIIM Jammu and encouraged young researchers to pursue innovative and interdisciplinary research with dedication and global scientific vision.
He emphasized that the future of drug discovery lies in collaborative science, advanced technologies, and strong partnerships between research institutions and industry.
