CS urges Union Cabinet Secy to ensure adequate quantity of new notes

JAMMU, Nov 16: Union Cabinet Secretary today convened a meeting of Chief Secretaries of various States through video conferencing to take stock of the situation after the withdrawal of legal tender character of existing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations of bank notes.
J&K Chief Secretary, B R Sharma briefed the Union Cabinet Secretary about the functioning of banks, ATMs and availability of new currency notes across Jammu and Kashmir. He apprised the Union Cabinet Secretary about the overall scenario and requested for ensuring availability of adequate quantity of new notes, especially of Rs 500 and Rs 100 denominations in the banks and ATMs to ease the rush of customers.
He informed that the State Government has taken appropriate measures to deal with the situation.  The Deputy Commiss-ioners/ District SPs have been directed to provide necessary security support to the banks operating in the areas of their jurisdiction for the facility of customers and to avoid any untoward situation.
The Chief Secretary also briefed the Union Cabinet Secretary about the deposition of offerings at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine during the last 15 days.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary  reviewed the progress of implementation of Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) at a high-level meeting held here today.
The PMDP of Rs. 80,000 crore is under implementation for the overall development and up-gradation of infrastructure in all the important sectors in the State. The major focus has been envisaged in the package on the improvement of road and highway projects, power, health, sports, urban development, tourism, relief and rehabilitation, agriculture and promotion of Pashmina etc.
The Chief Secretary received detailed brief on the progress of implementation of PMDP and called upon the Administrative Secretaries to lay focused attention on the time-bound completion of the projects and personally monitoring the progress of each one. He emphasized the need for ensuring close synergy by different agencies for achieving the better and timely results.
The Administrative Secret-aries briefed about the progress achieved on the PMDP and measures initiated for undertaking the projects as per the timeline.

Vyas, Principal Secretary, Home, R.K. Goyal and Administrative Secretaries of Finance, Industries & Commerce, Revenue, Rural Development, Housing & Urban Development, PHE, I&FC, Social Welfare, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Culture, Tourism, GAD, Law, Forest, Information Technology, PDD, Transport, Higher Education, Health and Medical Education and HoDs of various departments.
