CRPF to get special duty allowances: Shinde

GURGAON, Oct 29:
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today assured CRPF jawans and officers that they will get special allowances for rendering hard duties in anti-Naxal and counter-insurgency operations.
Shinde, who was chief guest at the CRPF Raising Day function at its garrison here, said the Central Reserve Police Force is an exclusive unit and special care of its troopers would be taken, as every time there is trouble in any part of the country, the force is deployed.
“Your demand for special allowances will be met soon. Some proposals in this regard have been sent to the Home Ministry by your force headquarters. I will see to it that all your problems are addressed as CRPF is a special force and every time there is some trouble in the country, everyone wants your force to be deployed,” Shinde said.
“Last time when I met you, I had announced that ex-paramilitary categorisation will be accorded for you and we will ensure that you and your families get all benefits under this class,” he said.
The Home Minister also urged the force to use modern technology in its future operations.
Shinde said he had full faith in the capabilities of the force which is deployed for a variety of internal security duties including tackling the Naxal movement.
The CRPF was raised in 1939 and at present it has close to three lakh personnel in its ranks.
Later, attending a back-to-back function of the elite National Security Guard (NSG), Shinde praised the ‘black cat’ commandos for tackling all forms of terrorism in the country saying their efforts were unparalleled.
Speaking at the NSG garrison at Gurgaon during the foundation stone laying ceremony of residential accommodation of the elite counter-terror and counter-hijack force, he said, “I congratulate you for your hard work and the way you have been working, nobody can parallel that.”
The Home Minister also mentioned NSG’s capabilities in handling the terrorists attack in Mumbai in 2008. “The unfortunate incident that occurred in Mumbai…We have always appreciated your efforts in tackling that. NSG has had a special role to contribute to the country’s security,” the minister said.
NSG chief Arvind Ranjan, during the event, said he is not authorised to comment on the blasts in Patna where his protectee and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi held a rally on Sunday.
“As far as the investigation of the explosion in Patna is concerned, NIA is investigating the case, it will be NIA which will be in a better position to answer,” he said and added that NSG is only assisting NIA in the probe.
“NSG gives only mobile security cover on which there will not be any let-up, as far as general security is concerned it is the responsibility of state government and I cannot comment on that,” the NSG Director General said. (PTI)
