Srinagar, Nov 28: A para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed while two others were injured in two separate militant attacks in Kashmir today while police averted a major tragedy by defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in South Kashmir.
CRPF spokesman Sudhir Kumar said here that a group of militants attacked a CRPF camp with automatic weapons at Bemina Bypass in Srinagar on the National highway at around 2.30 a.m. today.
Kumar said that the CRPF retaliated but the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness. He identified the deceased constable as Parveen Singh Rajput, a resident of Madhya Pradesh (MP).The body of Rajput was sent to his home after wreath laying ceremony here.
This attack comes weeks after militants targeted 3 liquor shops in Boulevard area of Srinagar killing one of person and injuring four others. Prior to this, two hotel employees were killed and equal number of them injured when militants targeted hotel Sliver Star on Srinagar By-pass last month.
Police said that militants lobbed a grenade at a CRPF patrol party in village Arwani in South Kashmir district of Anantnag this evening injuring two CRPF personnel and a civilian.
Police said that a CRPF party of 92 Battalion was attacked with a grenade in village Arwani injuring Assistant Sub-Inspector B S M Reddy, constable Ram Chand and a civilian Mehboob Habeeb.However, Constable Ram Chand and Mehboob Habib have been shifted to Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital for treatment as they were critically injured.
The militants fled away after carrying out the attack. The injured have been removed to district hospital Anantnag for treatment.
Senior Police and CRPF officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation. Manhunt has been launched to trace out the militants responsible for the attack.
A police spokesman said that Police detected and destroyed an IED planted in Tral area of Pulwama district last evening.
Police said on a tip off, Tral police detected an IED that was planted near a bridge at Nai Basti, Tral. A bomb disposal squad was immediately rushed to the spot and IED was defused.
Police have registered a case and are conducting the investigations.
