JAMMU June 27: While hailing the new Government at the Centre for according priority to issues relating to the Cross-Line of Control trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked for reforms and modernization in the trade which has potential for immense growth.
In a statement issued here today the president of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry Y V Sharma said that two high level central delegation visiting Kashmir within one month underlines the level of priority the Central Government seems to have accorded to the Cross-LoC trade.
He pointed out that the Cross-LoC trade has immersive potential of contributing to economic development as well as peace process between two countries and therefore it needs to be strengthened.
Y V Sharma said that after taking over as president of the Joint Chamber in March this year he has met all important authorities including the Governor and Chief Minister and has also written to the Central Government authorities for reforms in the Cross-LoC trade. He observed that a recent meeting chaired by the Joint Secretary (Kashmir) in the Ministry of Home Affairs was a much needed exercise to closely understand the issues of Cross-LoC trade.
Sharma said that Cross-LoC trade has outlived its symbolic value and now it is important to modernize it as more formal trade with provisions and facilities of modern trade including banking, communication and access to markets on both sides.
