Credit cum relief camps have been launched in Jammu for providing much needed relief to the flood affected people of the State. This is part of the relief package Central Government has granted for the victims. A joint project has been launched by the Union Finance Ministry and Indian Banks Association IBA with complete support from J&K Bank, which is Convenor State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC).
It is heartening to know that financial organizations, meaning banks, have taken great interest in providing relief and support to flood affected people by taking various steps to ease the situation. A number of proposals are on the anvil which if finally accepted will go a long way in providing timely succour to the traders, small businessmen, shopkeepers, and many more professional categories among the affected people. Dr. Jatindra Singh, the State Minister at the PMO has taken special interest in organizing J&K Special Credit-cum-Relief Camps launched in Jammu. Of course, we have already said in these columns that it is important to make sure that relief is given to deserving and genuine sufferers and it is given properly through proper channels. The PM has already assured the State that there will be no problem in raising funds for helping the affected people in the State to restart their lives. The people and their leaders in the State should be thankful to the Prime Minister and the Government of India for extending openhearted support to the sufferers in Kashmir. But as far as the distribution of relief is concerned, it is entirely the responsibility of the State Government.
The entire State machinery is involved in the Credit cum Relief Camps initiative. We expect the authorities to ensure that the affected people are rehabilitated before the harsh winter in Kashmir sets in. Nobody should be constrained to live without a roof. This will be the litmus test of the efficiency and dedicated services of the Government functionaries.
