Court issues production warrant against Yasin Malik

JAMMU, Sept 21: In the much publicized kidnapping of Dr Rubiya Sayeed, daughter of former Home Minister of India Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and sister of PDP chief Mehboba Mufti, Special Judge TADA Jammu Ashwani Sharma today directed Tihar Jail authorities to produce JKLF chief Yasin Malik on the next date—-October 19 and 20.

In this case, the TADA Court on January 29, 2021 framed charges under Sections 364, 369, 120-B RPC, Section 3/4 of TADA Act and Section 7/27 of Arms Act. Malik had requested the court to allow him to appear physically to cross-examine witnesses in the case.
The CBI counsel said lawyers of other accused in the case cross-examined Rubaiya Sayeed today. On July 15, Rubaiya identified Yasin Malik, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment in another case and is currently lodged in Tihar jail, as his abductor in 1989.
While framing the charges, TADA Court had observed, “in the first week of December 1989, Yasin Malik and others accused persons kidnapped Dr Rubaiya Sayeed, who at the relevant time was undergoing Resident Rotatory Internship Training in Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar and wrongfully confined her with ulterior motive of getting  release of five militants namely  Hamid Sheikh, Altaf Ahmed Bhat, Noor Mohd  Kalwal, Javed Ahmed Zarger and Sher Khan of JKLF, who were lodged at that time in different jails, in exchange of her release”.
Dr Rubaiya was kept in illegal confinement till December 13, 1989 when she was released.
