Court denies bail of narco smuggler

JAMMU, Nov 18: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua M A Chowdhary has rejected the bail application of one Rajeev Kumar, son of Manohar Lal of Pathankot, who was arrested by the Lakhanpur Police Station with 4.3 kilograms of poppy straw.
After hearing both the sides, the court observed, “there is massive increase in drug abuse in the State of J&K.  Reliable statistics reveal that thousands of the patients/victims have received treatment in the Drug De-addiction Centres across the State, which too do not have the adequate infrastructure that is needed to cope up with the huge demand”.
“This menace requires to be controlled at the very origin.  Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the Law Enforcement Agencies including Narcotic Control Bureau do not seem to be serious to be alive to this growing menace despite the fact that hundreds of youth have died due to overdose of the drugs”, the court said, adding “Government should regulate the supply of the medicinal drugs so that their misuse/abuse is minimized”.
With these observations, court rejected the bail application.
