Court awards10 yrs RI to charas smuggler

JAMMU, June 15: 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjeev Gupta today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs one lakh to Mohd Yousaf Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar of Batmaloo, who was arrested along with 2.6 kilograms of charas on May 21, 2010.
After hearing APP G S Charak for the State whereas Advocate Nadeem Bhat appearing for the accused, the Court observed, “the accused was consciously transporting commercial quantity of charas. The use of drug has become a major problem not only in this state but also in the country”, adding “the younger generation has got a particular temptation towards the use of drug which is nothing but destruction of the youth and the mankind”.
“The persons, who deal with the narcotics, are not only a threat to the society but also to entire social environment”, the Court further observed and awarded 10 years RI and fine of Rs 1 lakh to Mohd Yousaf.
