Court awards 20-yr term in POCSO case

SRINAGAR, Feb 9: The Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, today awarded 20-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 to an accused convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A Police spokesman said that they secured the sentence of Rouf Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Takiya Khalmulla Nagbal, Ganderbal, under Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act.
He said the conviction followed a strong and effective prosecution during the trial, supported by a thorough and professional investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad Bhat, while Jehangir Rafiqi, also a Public Prosecutor, argued the matter on behalf of the prosecution.
“The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Akbar, whose meticulous efforts played a key role in establishing the charges and securing the conviction,” police said.
