KATRA, Jan 28: A couple from Udhampur and their minor son were found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room at Katra town, this morning.
The deceased were identified as Satish Verma (40), resident of House number 184, Ward number 14 in Udhampur, his wife Monika (30) and nine-year old son Dheeraj. They had checked-in Hotel Asia Sripati at Katra last evening and their bodies were found lying on a bed this morning.
A seven-year old daughter of the deceased couple, who was accompanying the family, was the first to inform hotel staff about the condition of her parents and brother. On being informed, Police also reached the spot and found the trio dead.
According to Police, it was an apparent case of poisoning as there was no injury mark on the bodies.
Surviving daughter of the couple, identified as Diksha Verma, also told the Police that all the family members, except herself, had taken juice before going to sleep last evening. According to her, Satish Verma himself brought Gauva Real Juice from the market and offered it to everyone. While others gulped the juice, the girl did not take it and told her father that she would drink it later on. Afterwards, all the family members went for a sleep and in the morning, Diksha found her parents and brother unconscious.
Statement of the girl hint that Satish Sharma, who was a Goldsmith by profession and was running Saraswati Ornamental Shop at Udhampur Market, committed suicide and also gave poison to his wife and son for the unknown reasons.
However, Police has registered a case in this connection and started inquest proceedings under section 179 of CrPC, informed SHO Katra, Inspector Ajay Bhat.
Surviving Diksha and her deceased brother Dheeraj were studying in KC Gurukul from where their father Satish Verma and mother Monika picked up yesterday for pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi. The family reached Katra by personal car JK14B-8316 around 3.30 pm and checked in Hotel Asia Sripati where three of them were found dead this morning.
