JAMMU, Sept 11: A pall of gloom has descended on Bahadarpur village of Arnia after three of its residents including a couple were killed, while a toddler went missing after accident of a car near Marallian area of Miran Sahib here.
As per sources, in a tragic accident three persons including a couple were killed when a private car plunged into a canal in Marallian area of Miran Sahib, police sources said, adding that a rescue operation was also launched to find a missing toddler.

Four other persons, who were also travelling in the vehicle, were rescued and evacuated to hospital, sources said, adding that accident took place at Marallian in Miran Sahib area in the early hours when a car bearing registration number JK02AC-7169 which was carrying eight relatives on their way to Bahadurpur village in Arnia from Satwari, skidded off the road and fell into the canal near Marallian.
Ganesh Kumar, son of Kewal Krishan, a resident of Bahadarpur Arnia was driving the vehicle and lost control while negotiating a curve, sources said, adding that police team led by SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Sultan Mirza along with locals immediately launched a rescue operation. UTDRF personnel also joined the operation.
The rescuers managed to save the lives of Ganesh Kumar, his wife Kanchana, Menu Kumari, wife of Kamal Kumar and her son Sushant.
The rescuers recovered the bodies of Kewal Krishan, his wife Surjeet Kumari and two months old girl namely Paranshi, daughter of Kamaljeet Singh, all residents of Bahadarpur, while the search was still on for two-year-old Manshi, daughter of Kamaljeet when last reports were compiled, the sources said.
“The rescuers have to face tough time as the water level in the canal had risen due to recent rainfall. The rescue operation has been suspended and will be resumed tomorrow morning to recover the toddler”, sources added.
However, a case under FIR Number 106/2021 under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A IPC has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib and investigation started to ascertain the cause of accident.
Meanwhile, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla visited the residences of the deceased and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also demanded compensation to the families, who lost their near and dear ones in this tragic accident.
