Couple among 3 killed, 3 injured in Marwah mishap

KISHTWAR, Nov 25: Three persons including a couple were killed, while three others got seriously injured, when the Tata Sumo, they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into deep gorge near Purana Kadal area of Marwah last night.
The ill-fated vehicle was on its way to Marwah from Larnoo, when the driver lost control over the steering and it landed into deep gorge near Purana Kadal area, resulting into on the spot death of three persons including a couple and serious injuries to three others.
After getting information, police team and locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons and also retrieved the bodies of the deceased persons from the gorge this morning.
All the injured persons and bodies of the deceased were shifted to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Nawapacchi in police and other vehicles.
Due to non-availability of doctor in PHC Nawapacchi, the relatives of the injured persons expressed resentment and held protest for sometime. They raised slogans against the health authorities and demanded action against the doctor.
The para-medical staff treated the injured persons and one of the injured, who was the driver of the vehicle identified as Ifroz, son of Abdul Aziz Dangroo of Lisnu Kokernag, was later referred to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Anantnag for advanced treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Hassan Magray (40), son of Ghulam Ali Magray, his wife Zafara Begum (33) and Shahnaza Begum (26), wife of Mohammad Ramzan, all residents of Nawapacchi.
However, the two critically injured persons, identified as Mohammad Ramzan (33), son of Abdul Aziz of Kokernoo, Nawapachhi and Khursheed Ahmed, son of Abdul Rasheed Malik of Chhanger Marwah were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the chopper of Indian Air Force.
A case in this regard has been registered by the police station Nawapacchi and investigations started to ascertain the reason behind the accident.
DC Kishtwar, GN Balwan, when contacted about the non-availability of doctor, said that CMO has been directed to initiate inquiry whether the doctor posted at PHC Nawapacchi was officially absent or unauthorizedly absent.
“As soon as I will receive the report, appropriate action will be taken if the doctor was found unauthorizedly absent”, he asserted.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Public Works (R&B) and Revenue Sunil Sharma and MLC Firdous Tak visited GMCH and enquired about the health of the injured persons. They expressed grief over the incident, in which three persons lost their lives and three others got injured.
