RAJOURI, May 4: A notorious thief and drug-smuggler hailing from Jawahar Nagar in Rajouri town and son of a retired Assistant Sub Inspector of J&K Police, who was booked in many cases of theft and drug peddling, has been detained under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Reports said the notorious thief has been identified as Sunny Sharma, son of ASI (Retd) Romesh Chander, a resident of Ward No 5, Jawahar Nagar, Rajouri.
Police said that the accused has been booked under Public Safety Act for his repeated involvement in several theft and drug-smuggling cases thereby, posing a threat to peace and order in the area.
He did not change his behaviour inspite of been booked in several FIRs and arrest by police in these cases but he continued his illegal and unlawful act of theft and such activities of Sunny became headache for the people of Jawahar Nagar and Rajouri City.
The cases in which Sunny has been booked earlier include FIR No. 503/2013 U/S 379 RPC, FIR No. 626/2014 U/S 379 RPC, FIR No. 529/2015 U/S 457/380/RPC, FIR No. 71/2016 U/S 380 RPC, FIR No. 748/2016 U/S 457/380 RPC, FIR No. 755/2016 U/S 457/380 RPC, FIR No. 134/2017 U/S 224 RPC, FIR No. 13/2018 U/S 382 RPC, FIR No. 380/2020 U/S 457/357IPC, FIR No 407 /2020 U/S 357/380 and 109 IPC, FIR No 423/2020 U/S 323/224 IPC, FIR No 443/2020 U/S 357/380 IPC.
Police said that as his activities amounts to propagating and creating feelings of terror among communities, the accused was ordered to be detained Under Section 8 of Public Safety Act and has been lodged in Jail. His arrest was made by police team led by SHO Rajouri, Insp Shoukat Ahmed under the close supervision of DySP Hqr Mudasir Ahmed and Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Amritpal Singh.
