DODA, Aug 18: SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta has taken immediate and firm action against Selection Grade Constable, Mohd Zia of Police Post Premnagar for allegedly thrashing a Village Defence Guard (VDG).

Zia has been placed under suspension and attached to District Police Lines (DPL) pending further proceedings.
A departmental enquiry has been ordered against him and a senior officer has been appointed as the Enquiry Officer to investigate the case comprehensively.
The enquiry report is to be submitted within a fortnight.
In addition, the conduct of the then SHO Police Station Thathri, DySP (P), Afeer Jaleel, will also be thoroughly examined as part of the enquiry. The Enquiry Officer has been directed to assess his role and submit specific findings for further necessary action.
The VDG member, Balbeer Singh, had fired two rounds in the air after detecting suspicious movement in his village Pernote in Premnagar area of district Doda, a day before the Independence Day.
The next day, he was summoned to the Police outpost in Premnagar and beaten up badly, especially by Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Zia.
Balbeer Singh was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Doda after being badly injured.
