Cop martyred, another injured in twin attacks in Kashmir

JAMMU, Aug 14: A cop who was injured last night in a grenade attack in Kulgam district succumbed to his injury this morning at GMC Anantnag and another cop was injured in a militant attack in Nowhatta area of Srinagar this evening.
Militants last night hurled a grenade in Qaimoh Kulgam on police. One cop -Tahir Khan of Mendhar, Poonch was injured in the attack.
He was shifted to GMC hospital Anantnag for treatment where he succumbed.
In the meantime, a cop and a militant were injured in an encounter at Nowhatta area of Srinagar this evening.
Police said that a police personnel – Ct Sarfaraz Ahmad of Batote in Ramban was injured in the attack.
He was evacuated to hospital for treatment and a militant has also been injured.
The injured cop has been taken to 92 Base Hospital where his condition is said to be stable so far.
A scooter used by two militants of the LeT has been seized from the incident site. One AK-74 rifle and two grenades were recovered from the encounter site.
The search operation in the area is on and it is not yet clear whether the militants have fled or have been trapped.
In the meantime, militants hurled a grenade towards Pandit Migrant Colony at Haal village in Pulwama tonight.
The grenade exploded on the main entrance of the Colony without causing any damage. The area has been cordoned off and searches are being conducted against militants responsible for the attack.
