Coordination among stake holders vital for disaster management: Div Com

JAMMU, Jan 22: Stressing on strengthening the inter-agency coordination to ensure effective and quick human resource response to disaster, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu asked for adopting a rational approach for disaster management.
The Divisional Commissioner was speaking at one day consultation programme on “Lessons Learnt and Way Forward on floods in Jammu and Kashmir (2014)” here today.
Mr. Shantmanu emphasized on incorporating in the plan- aspects to strengthen the inter-agency coordination, early warning systems, emergency management exercises, real life simulation exercises and capacity building to ensure effective and quick human resource response to any disaster.
Divisional Commissioner said that a ready inventory of various NGOs volunteers and other organizations should be prepared so that their services could be utilized effectively during and after disaster.
The main objective of the programme was to build the confidence of the affected communities and consultation with the stake holders involved in the rehabilitation work going on in the division like the Government, NGOs and individuals in dealing with the recovery/rehabilitation issues and drawing up an effective rehabilitation and road map for the division.
A brief overview highlighting the main features of the draft of the J&K State Disaster Management Plan was presented and comments, inputs and suggestions from the participants were solicited for incorporation in the final draft so that an efficient, effective and comprehensive Disaster Management Plan is formulated for the state incorporating all aspects.
Earlier, welcome address was presented by Additional Commissioner Jammu Rehana Batul.
Among others District Development Commissioner Samba, Mubarak Singh, Emergency Specialist DRR Section, UNICEF India, Sarabjeet Singh Sahota, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control and various SDMs also attended the meeting.
