Convention on anti- pollution organized

KATHUA, Feb 10: A convention on  increasing level of  industrial and vehicular pollution, suggesting ways to curb it was organized by Anti-Pollution Movement, an NGO  here today.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh president of the Movement  while senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami, who is also chairman of J&K Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment  was the chief guest.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr Tarigami assured the general public to raise voice against pollution and bring the burning issues related to environment and pollution to the notice of the Assembly House. Being chairman of  J&K Legislative Assembly Committee on environment, the MLA assured to   frame a committee of experts to study scientific effects of pollution emitted by the Industrial units, to prepare a draft for the House to discuss and periodical visits of the area alongwith officials of concerned departments to mitigate the problem of increasing pollution  level.
Mohinder Singh while speaking on the occasion raised the issues regarding need to shift several  cement manufacturing units from present location in the area, establishment of  common effluent treatment plant, installation of pollution control devices, construction  of remaining portion of derainage from Chenab Textiles Mill Kathua up to Maggar Khud, closure of all Red Cetegory units, and implementation of J&K Industrial Policy in true sense.
Kulwant Singh, general secretary, I D Khajuria and Kuldip Singh also spoke on the occasion.
