JAMMU, Sept 3: Contractual Lecturers and Teaching Assistants from different colleges of Jammu University today held a protest demonstration demanding immediate ban on appointment of “Guest faculty” in different colleges.
The protest was held under the banner of JK College Contractual Lecturers Association, which alleged that following the court stay on the appointment of lecturers on academic arrangement, the Government was now making such appointment by changing the nomenclature from “Lecturers on an Academic Arrangement” to “Guest faculty”.
The protest was held outside the GGM Science College, which is the Nodal College. The protesters met with Prof R S Jamwal, Member Academic Committee and apprised him of their concern.
They informed that on the pretext of Guest Faculty, the Principals are appointing the Guest faculty members and thus playing with the career of students as it puts up question mark on the quality of education the students will get from these “Guest Faculty” members.
Mr Jamwal was also requested to take up the matter with higher authorities to ban such appointments and to take up the matter of Academic arrangements with Advocate General so that it is resolved at the earliest and these lecturers / Teaching Assistants will be appointed in their respective allotted colleges without any further delay.
The demonstrators warned that massive demonstration across the colleges in the whole province shall be held in case the appointment of these “Guest Faculty” members is not banned.
