JAMMU, Apr 28: The ongoing hunger strike by contractual lecturers (10+2), who are demanding their regularization, entered 74th consecutive day today while Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh assured them to put their case in Cabinet.
The agitating contractual lecturers today raised slogans in support of their demands and accused the Government for not coming forward with a written agreement on their demand for regularization.
While addressing the protesters, president of Contractual Lecturers’ (10+2) Association, Arun Bakshi, informed the protesting lecturers that yesterday a delegation of Forum met Education Minister, Syed Mohd Altaf Bukhari, in the office chamber of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh. He said that after thorough discussion, the Education Minister and Deputy CM assured the Forum that they have decided to put their case in the cabinet for final decision.
Bakshi further informed that the Education Minister asked the delegation to lift the dharna but he categorically refused to lift the dharna and told the Deputy CM and Education Minister that they will continue their hunger strike and wait for the cabinet till a concrete result in writing comes out.
The Forum president said that they would tolerate no more exploitation by the Government. “If our demands are not conceded at an earliest, we will make this agitation more vigorous and the Government will be responsible for the consequence,” he warned.
Jeevan Kumar, State press secretary of the Forum said that the association has finally decided not to lift the dharna and suspended hunger strike till their cases of regularization as per Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010 are settled.
The contractual lecturers are demanding their regularization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a policy framed for the regularization of all the ad-hoc/ contractual/consolidated employees after rendering seven years of services.
