SRINAGAR, July 6: Scores of college teachers today staged a protest against the non-implementation of the Supreme Court orders regarding the continuation of services and release of salaries.
Teachers, under the banner of the J&K College Contractual Teachers Association (JKCCTA), assembled in the Press Enclave and were seen holding placards, urging the authorities to ensure the implementation of their Supreme Court directives.
“We seek the implementation of Supreme Court orders issued on May 2, 2022, which said that the cases of the candidates in which status quos have been issued by the High Courts or the CAT, the services of those candidates should be continued and their salary should be released,” Muhammad Iqbal, Spokesperson of the JKCCTA said.
He said that the Department approached in a biased manner as the directions were “only implemented in Jammu while as in Kashmir, no compliance to the order issued was shown which is akin to pushing the scholars to the wall.”
The protestors demanded the intervention of the higher-ups and said that they should not be compelled to come out on the roads.
The protestors said that the petition was filed by the Administrative Department of Higher Education against the verdict of the CAT Jammu Bench in the Supreme Court of India.
“But keeping in view the merits of the basic petitions filed by the academic arrangement faculty in High Court and CAT, Supreme Court of India dismissed the appeal of the Higher Education department and upheld the directions of High Court and CAT, passed from time to time, moreover directed the department to resume the services of the faculty with immediate effect,” they said.
The president, JKCCTA appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha, Advisor R.R Bhatnagar, and others to intervene in the matter.
