Continue reservation for ST, SC, OBC employees: Poonchi

POONCH, Jan 16: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi has appealed to Government to pass a bill in the ongoing session of J&K Legislative Assembly for continuing reservation in promotion for the Government employees belonging to Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories.
Hakla said that in every sphere of life reservation in the need of the hour and is necessary for the people belonging to ST, SC and OBC categories, adding that in order to keep ST, SC and OBC employees at par with people belonging to upper castes, their reservation in promotion is an essential requirement.
Shamsher Hakla Poonchi said that even after 25 years of granting ST status to the Gujjar and Bakerwal community by Government of India, the people of this community are still deprived of full benefit as this community is still socially, educationally, economically and politically lagging behind due to the apathy of the State Government.
Hakla said that the problems and need of Gujjar Bakerwal are quite different from other communities of the State, adding that language and culture of Gujjar community is also different than those of other communities of this State and this is the reason that this community is having its own peculiar position and distinct identity.
