Consumption of liquor increased, so has the revenue in J&K: Drabu

SRINAGAR: The consumption of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), JK Special Wisky, Beer and Ready to Drink (RTD), has witnessed considerable increase so has the revenue  in the Jammu and Kashmir during the past three years.

Despite massive anti-liquor campaign, people in the Kashmir valley have consumed 29.54 lakh liquor bottles of different brand during the year 2015-16 while this year 2.55 lakh bottles were drunk upto April this year.

Interestingly there is no consumption of JK special Whisky in the Kashmir valley this year when it was just 10 thousand last year and one thousand during 2014-15, this information was given by Minister Incharge Finance Dr Haseeb Drabu to a question by Sat Paul Sharma in the Legislative Assembly today.

There was no consumption of liquor in muslim dominated Kargil district while Buddhist dominated Leh has consumed 104.37 lakh bottles while the number this year was 1.42 lakh upto April 2015. He said the State has earned Excise Revenue (Civil) was to the tune of Rs 77.79 crore while it was Rs 1.55 crore till April 2016. (AGENCIES)
