Conservation of streams

I
Sir,
Apropos the news item “Mehbooba asks RDD to undertake conservation of village streams.”  DE Aug 27. In this context I would like to draw the attention of the authorities towards the river Devika in village Purmandal called Gupt Ganga- Ganga of Duggar Pradesh which in the present day environ is in the dire need of special attention of the Department because of the following facts :
The river Devika is called Gupt Ganga because whenever and wherever we dig a pit in the sandy soil the holy water gushes out immensely. Due to deforestation in the up hills of the stream the sandy soil in the Devika River bed is getting depleted day  by day and the day is not far away when the notion of Gupt Ganga in minds of Hindu devotees will be a dream of the past.
Construction of check dams at appropriate spots in the stream bed will be highly appreciable to safeguard the sanctity of Gupt  Ganga and its faith in the minds of devotees.
A comprehensve  plan under the caption “Mission clean Devika” is needed to be tailored and put into motion wherein construction/maintenance of bathrooms, latrines, bathing ghats, cleaning of lanes and drains including diversion of sewage waters is appropriately defined.
The practice of cremation of dead bodies near Shiva temple complex is a grave source of water pollution. A public  awareness campaign is needed to be launched so that the issue is settled once for all and the ways and means for construction of a well  planned tourism infrastructure are smoothened.

Sir,
To overcome water shortage, especially in villages it is necessary that people conserve village streams and ponds. The village streams play an important in the villages. These streams not only provide water for drinking purposes both for people and cattle, but also are used in irrigating land. The village life revolves around these streams. Besides, they enhance the beauty of the villages they pass through.
The gurguling streams are a source of sweet melody which soothes the tired nerves of a farmer. In case these ponds and streams are maintained for one reason or the other, it may spell doom to village ecology and cripple whole agriculture activities. Efforts must be maintained to keep them pollution and encroachment free.
It is not mere duty of the Government but also local people to conserve this God given treasure.
Yours etc…
