JAMMU, Feb 26: Congress workers of Jammu East led by PCC general secretary, Vikram Malhotra held a strong protest at Municipal Complex Jammu against the unhygienic condition of lanes, drains, parks and other areas of Jammu City.
A large number of Congress workers holding banners and placards in their hands assembled at Municipal Complex, Upper Gumat amidst raising slogans. They questioned the so called Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan of the Government. Later, they also submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner JMC.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Malhotra said that spirit and essence of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan launched by the Central Government is being mauled by JMC. A visit to various wards of the old city will accentuate my allegations. He said there are heaps of garbage lying in the streets, the menace of stray dogs and their excreta adding to the already unhygienic conditions also poses a threat of rabies from dog bites which are a common occurrence. Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan has become a mockery for the people of Jammu City. The usage of plastic bags is rampant the drains are clogged. And the segregation of waste, green and dry is also not taking place.
He said that it is more agonizing, as the attitude of JMC officers specially the Health Officer which ironically is callous and indifferent and arrogant to say the least. She does not respond to the calls when the residents try to voice their concerns apprise her of the hardships they face due the unhealthy and unhygienic conditions. It’s is requested that you act promptly in this regard and help the residents and put such officers at the helm who want to serve the public .
Prominent among those who attended the protest included Sandeep Gandotra, Anmol Singh Chouhan, Ram Lal, Suresh Dogra, Michael Wazir, Raj Kumar Sodi, Vishal Gupta, Amit Gupta, Rajesh Khosla, Sanjay Malhotra, Rinku Mehra, Showqat, Maqbool, Manzoor, Jugal Kishor, Sanjay Sharma, Rubina Akther, Vimla Devi, Rani Devi, Meena, Anju Joshi, Manju Devi, Suman Lata, Sita Devi and others.
