JAMMU, Aug 5: As part of nationwide call of AICC for protests against price hike, increasing unemployment and alleged misuse of Central agencies, Congress leaders and workers today held strong protest demonstrations at both the capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir.
At Jammu, a number of protesting Congress leaders and workers were detained by Police when they tried to march towards Raj Bhawan in the form of a procession from Shaheedi Chowk Jammu.
Led by JKPCC President G A Mir along with working president Raman Bhalla and others, the protesting Congress leaders and workers were raising slogans in favor of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and against price rise, unemployment and alleged misuse of Central agencies.
They were also demanding restoration of statehood and early democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Carrying placards against BJP and Modi Government for its economic policies against the poor and youth apart from politics of vendetta, the Congress leaders and workers, including Mahila Congress activists, assembled at Shaheedi Chowk near Congress HQ despite.
Despite heavy downpour and rains, the Congress leaders and workers held strong protest demonstration amidst raising of slogans.
As they tried to march towards Raj Bhawan, Police swung into action and did not allow them to move further. After some moments of pushing against each other, Police detained several Congress leaders.
Prominent Congress leaders, who took part in the protest demonstration, included Mula Ram, G M Saroori, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Balbir Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, T S Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Naresh Gupta, Krishan Bhagat, Dina Nath Bhagat, Ashok Sharma, Maheshwar Singh, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Thomas Khokhar, Sanjeev Sharma, Kulbir Singh Pathania, Parveen Akhtar, Pankaj Dogra, Sanjeev Sharma, Babbal Gupta, Gurdarshan Singh, Suresh Dogra, Karan Bhagat, Gajan Singh, Rajveer Singh, Pranab Shagotra, Ch Dwarka, Kamal Singh, Col Swarn Singh, Sobat Ali, Ritu Chaudhary,, Gourav Chopra, Vandana Sharma, Nadeem Niaz, Amrit Bali, Ajay Lakhotra, Satish Sharma, Sahil Sharma, Ashok Gupta, Zahida Khan, Sumit Mangotra, Uttam Singh, Virinder Singh, Ram Mangotra, Surinder Khajuria, Balbir Singh, Rajan Sharma, Manav Upadhaya, Ajaib Motton, Kewel Yogi, Latish Sharma and others.
Meanwhile, similar protest demonstration was held at Srinagar Party Office against price hike, GST and rising unemployment. The party also demanded full statehood to J&K and termed the BJP Govt’s August 6, 2019 decision as unconstitutional, undemocratic and an insult to 120 crore J&K residents by using brute majority in the Parliament.
Senior Congress leaders Tariq Hameed Karra, Taj Mohi- U- Din, Bashir Ahmad Magrey, Surinder Singh Channi, PCC office bearers, DCC Presidents and prominent party workers participated in the protest demonstration.
They also tried to march towards the Raj Bhawan to register their protest but were prevented by the cops who had closed the main gate of MA Road Party headquarter.
