UDHAMPUR, June 1: District Congress Committee (DCC) Udhampur, under the leadership of DCC chief Sumeet Magotra, organized a protest demonstration and rally at Indira Chowk in the main market of Udhampur against rising inflation, soaring petrol and diesel prices, and the increasing economic burden on common citizens.
Addressing the gathering, Magotra launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central Government, stating that while international crude oil prices have witnessed a significant decline over the past several months, the Government has failed to pass on the benefits to the people. He said that whenever crude oil prices rise, the BJP Government cites international circumstances as an excuse, but when crude prices fall, ordinary citizens are denied any relief.
Magotra said that the BJP came to power promising “Achhe Din” (better days), but today the people of the country are suffering under the burden of inflation, unemployment, and rising prices. The high cost of petrol and diesel has increased transportation expenses, directly impacting the prices of essential commodities and making everyday life more difficult for the common man.
He further stated that under BJP rule, household budgets have been severely affected. The prices of milk, flour, edible oil, LPG cylinders, pulses, and almost every essential item have increased substantially, placing immense pressure on poor families, farmers, labourers, employees, and the middle class. Despite these hardships, the Central Government appears completely disconnected from the concerns of the people. He accused the BJP of diverting public attention through emotional and religious issues while ignoring pressing concerns such as inflation and livelihoods.
Magotra demanded an immediate reduction in petrol and diesel prices, effective measures to control inflation, and concrete relief for the common people. He warned that if the Government continues to ignore public grievances, the Congress Party will intensify its struggle both on the streets and in democratic institutions to protect the interests of the people.
