Congress disrupts LS proceedings ; slogans

NEW DELHI: Rough weather prevailed in the Lok Sabha for the second successive day today, as unrelenting Opposition Congress Members trooped into the Well and rented the air with slogans against ”vendetta politics” of the BJP Government.

Trouble surfaced at the onset of the sitting this morning when Congress leader M Mallikarjun Kharge rose to make his point over Opposition’s protests in the House yesterday but was not allowed in Question Hour.

Mr Kharge said, “Yesterday the Chair wanted me to make point over mode of agitation adopted by the Opposition in the House, but I could not, hence I rose to speak now”.         At this, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, “I repeatedly asked you to speak yesterday, but you did not, now you are responding to the call after 24 hours”.

“I shall allow you to make your point but not during Question Hour. After the Question Hour you will be the first to make your point”.          However, the Congress leader insisted on speaking saying “I did not rise after 24 hours to speak, in-fact whenever I make bid to speak, I am prevented, my words are removed from the records..,this happened when I tried to raise the anti-Dalit issue of Minister of State Mr V K Singh”.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu took serious exception to Mr Kharge’s attempt saying this is not the way, the Congress leader should allow the Question Hour proceedings and raise the issue as per the Chair’s ruling.

Congress Members opposed Mr Naidu’s statement as many of them, including Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev, Deepender Singh Hooda, Ranjeet Ranjan trooped into the Well resorting to slogan shouting.

This forced the Chair to conduct Question Hour proceedings amid din. (AGENCIES)
