JAMMU, June 25: Congress, Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists today held protest demonstrations at different places against the railway fare hike by the Union Government.
Congress workers led by Yogesh Sawhney, former Minister and Pranav Shagotra, vice president, Pradesh Youth Congress held a protest demonstration against the Modi Government for its decisions of hike in the railway fare by 14.2 per cent, hike in the prices of sugar, diesel, kerosene oil and LPG cylinders in a dictatorial manner.
The Congress workers assembled at Shaheedi Chowk and raised slogans against Union Government for its anti-poor policies and also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narinder Modi.
Addressing the gathering, Yogesh Sawhney and Pranav Shagotra criticized Union Government for taking such anti-people decisions within a month time of taking over the regime of the Country.
They said the people of the Country were the familiar of the anti-poor policies of the BJP but they fell into the trap of hollow and false slogans of Narinder Modi.
They condemned the anti-poor policies of the Union Government and warned to continue their protest till the role back of the prices of essential commodities.
Among others present were Pawan Dev Singh and Rajinder Kumar, block presidents, Prikshit Shagotra, Anoop Gupta, Raj Kumar Sodhi, Raj Kumar Mehra, etc.
Meanwhile, J&K Pradesh Youth Congress and National Students’ Union India (NSUI) held a massive protest against the increase in railway fare and freight charges by Union Government.
Amid slogans, Youth Congress and NSUI activists protested and halted train at Jammu Tawi railway station. Police entered the station and had a scuffle with protesting activists and lathi-charged them to evacuate the premises.
While talking to media persons, Neeraj Kundan, State president, NSUI said that hike in railway fare is not a healthy sign of good days and NSUI will protest till the rolling back of the anti-people decision of the Central Government.
The Congress workers of Vijaypur under the leadership of district vice president Bubble Gupta protested against Union Government at main chowk Vijaypur in district Samba.
The protestors were demanding roll back of the hiked railway fare and essential commodities.
A protest against NDA Government was held at Sunderbani under the leadership of Rajinder Sharma, senior Congress leader and Assembly candidate.
Raising slogans, people assembled at Congress office and took out a protest march towards the national highway and blocked the highway for 30 minutes.
They were demanding roll back of the hiked railway fare and essential commodities.
At Kanhal in Bishnah, the Congress activists led by Block president Shashi Sharma held a strong protest demonstration against the hiked rail fare. They raised slogans against the Modi Government and also torched an effigy of the Union Railway Minister.

Amid slogans, the protestors assembled at main chowk Gangyal under the leadership Satish Sharma, Ex-Chairman Municipal Corporation Jammu and senior Congress leader and raised slogans against the Union Government and also burnt the effigy of the union Railway Minister.
The protestors demanded immediate roll back in the rail fare vis-à-vis essential commodities.
