‘Big space needed, security clearance being sought’

Srinagar, Jan 15: The In-charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs for Congress, Rajni Patil today said that the party is holding a mega rally in Srinagar at the culmination of Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) for which a big space is needed and security clearance is being sought.
Patil outlined the route which the yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, is going to take on way to Srinagar.

She said that a big culmination rally is also scheduled to be held in Srinagar and that people from different parts of the country are calling to attend the rally.
“For that, we will need a big space so that everyone is accommodated; for that, the necessary security clearances are being sought,” she said.
Concerning the parties and political leaders attending the culmination rally of the ‘Bharat Jo Yatra’, she said that 22 parties which have been invited to be a part of the culmination rally have not yet confirmed their participation. “We are waiting for their response,” she said.
On the leaders who are set to join Rahul Gandhi during the culmination rally in Srinagar, she said, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, M Y Tarigami, Muzaffar Shah and Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena, are all set to join in.
“We are also eyeing to have Rahul hold a press conference in Jammu as well as in Srinagar so that he gets to talk to people and people talk to him via the press,” she said.
Flanked by Vikar Rasool and senior Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra, Patil told a press conference here that the yatra will end on January 30 in Srinagar and that on January 20, the yatra will reach Lakhanpur.
“There will be a flag handover ceremony and on the second day he (Rahul Gandhi) will start walking from Lakhanpur towards Kathua, Samba and finally, he will reach Jammu where a rally is scheduled to be held at Satwari Chowk,” she said.
After that, she said, the yatra will proceed towards Kashmir via Udhampur to Banihal. “Towards Anantnag, the route is yet to be finalized and the same will be done in a few days. From Anantnag, he will head towards Srinagar where he will be received and welcomed at Pantha Chowk,” he said.
Patil accused the BJP of divisive politics and said that her party has always worked for taking everyone along.
She while addressing the media regarding the preparations and the arrangements being put in place for the culmination rally of the ‘Bharat Jo Yatra’ in Srinagar, accused BJP of playing divisive politics. “They have always divided people and it has always been the Congress which worked for taking everyone along,” she said.
On the Assembly election in J&K, she said that Home Minister Amit Shah has promised that the elections will be held, and “since then we have been asking for the conduct of elections in J&K so that the people could have a popularly elected Government.”
