JAMMU, July 19: Pradesh Congress today held a strong protest demonstration against the UP Chief Minister, Yogi Aditya Nath for the arrest of AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh.

The AICC leader was arrested by Police in UP today, when she was proceeding to Sonbhadra district to meet the victims/ families of 10 people killed and twenty eight (28) injured, while resisting an attempt to take possession of the land by village headman and his supporters two days ago.
The protest demonstration was led by PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, while senior leaders of Congress including functionaries of PCC, DCC Jammu Urban & Rural, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and other frontal wings, Corporators also accompanied. They held a strong protest demonstration at Shaheedi Chowk Jammu against the Uttar Pradesh Government terming the action of detention and arrest of Ms Gandhi as arbitrary and anti- democratic, as she had gone to meet victims of Sonbadhra massacre. The protestors raised slogans against BJP and UP Government of Yogi Aditya Nath. They raised slogans in favour of Priyanka Gandhi and Congress party and slammed the BJP Government for preventing her to proceed to meet victims.
Addressing media at the site, PCC chief slammed BJP and UP Government for the worst law and order situation in UP and lashed out at the UP Govt for the anti- democratic action of preventing Priyanka Gandhi and taking her into custody when she wanted to lead a small delegation to meet the victims of massacre. He said that UP Govt prevented Gandhi to hide the worst failure of BJP to maintain law and order and ensure the safety and security of poor people. He also lashed out at the incident of killing of three persons in Bihar and strongly condemned for the failure to maintain rule of law in various parts of the country.
Several prominent leaders who joined the protest included Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Rajnish Sharma, Shah Mohd Chowdhary, Manmohan Singh, Indu Pawar, Vikram Malhotra, Hari Singh Chib, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjit Singh, Vinod Sharma, Udhay Chib, Dr Rashid Choudhary, JMC Corporators – Ch Darwika, Gourav Chopra, Bhanu Mahajan, Ritu Choudhary, Ch Mohiuddin, Pritam Singh, Inderjeet Kaur, Sobat Ali, Suresh Dogra, Pranab Shagotra, Pawan Raina, Narinder Sharma, Raqeeq Khan, Suresh Dogra, Rajiv Saraf, Rajveer Singh, Manjit Singh Jatt, Sanjeev Padha, Dr RK Khajuria, Sahil Sharma and others.
