JAMMU, Apr 26: The District Congress Committee Jammu (Urban) today held a protest demonstration, followed by dharna at Vikram Chowk Jammu, under the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” campaign, demanding the restoration of Statehood to the Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest was held under the leadership of president District Congress Committee Jammu Urban, Yogesh Sawhney and was organized by Ajay Kumar Kaka, Block president. A large number of Congress workers and supporters participated in the demonstration, raising slogans and holding placards in support of their demand.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawhney stated that the restoration of Statehood is not merely a political demand but a matter of constitutional and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the people have been deprived of their elected Government for years, which has led to a growing sense of alienation and administrative disconnect.
Sawhney emphasized that Statehood is essential for ensuring accountability, strengthening governance, and restoring the democratic voice of the people. He added that the Congress Party remains committed to safeguarding the rights and dignity of the citizens and will continue to raise this issue at every platform.
He said that the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” campaign reflects the collective sentiment of the people who seek restoration of their identity and constitutional status. He remarked that repeated assurances without concrete action have only deepened public frustration. He stressed that the Central leadership must act decisively and fulfill its commitments regarding Statehood.
Reiterating his stand, Sawhney asserted that the Congress party will intensify its agitation in the coming days until Statehood is fully restored. He said that the participation of workers and citizens in large numbers shows the growing momentum of the movement. He also appreciated the efforts of Ajay Kumar Kaka and party workers for successfully organizing the protest.
Senior leaders including Gurdarshan Singh, Raj Kumar Mehra, Vijay Singh Chib, Nageshwar Narayan, Ram Magotra, Rakesh Sharma, Sohit Sharma, Latish Sharma, Fiaz Diwan, Anirudh Sawhney, Suhaib Manhas, Anmol Kohli and others were also present during the protest.
