SRINAGAR, Sept 23: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today slammed the Government for nonpayment of Rs. 400 crore to the contractors for the completed works.
Expressing serious concern over the economic crisis being faced by the Contractors in J&K due to nonpayment for their works, JKPCC President, G.A Mir said that developmental process has received a severe blow due to wrong policies of the Government.
He said, the Contractors were confronted with multiple issues, which the Government has failed to address as a result of which they have been pushed to the wall.
“When there were no payments against the works done, how could the Contractors complete the projects they have undertaken,” he asked terming it as matter of grave concern.
Mir claimed that about Rs. 400 crore were accumulated for the works done under CRF/Centrally Sponsored Schemes but the payments have not been released for the same on one pretext or the other.
The JKPCC President said that Atma Nirbhar Bharat shall remain a mere slogan till the money owed to the Contractors and others is withheld as majority of the contractors etc in turn owe money to JK Bank, which has to be paid by them at appropriate time fixed by the bank authorities.
He quoted reports to claim that even the construction material is not available and no facility is being provided to ensure availability of the material for mega projects which was bound to promote illegal activities.
“One fails to understand that on one hand the Government is claiming that enormous developments are taking place and on the other hand payments against the works done by the Contractors are withheld,” Mir maintained adding that mere slogans of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and tall claims about the development won’t serve any purpose and the government has to be realistic and should take effective measures to address the concerns of Contractors and others who have equally suffered due to the ugliest situation.
