JAMMU, Mar 15: The J&K UT unit of Congress Party today provided a boat to residents of Katal Batal village near Bhaid Devta in Nagrota constituency to facilitate movement across a river Tawi after a bridge in the area was damaged last year and disrupted connectivity.
Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra, working president Raman Bhalla and former Minister Yogesh Sawhney visited the village and handed over the boat to the locals, a party spokesperson said.
The boat will prove beneficial for the locals who were facing difficulties in commuting across the river following the destruction of the bridge connecting Bhaid Devta Shrine and the surrounding villages due to devastating floods in September last year.
Stressing that such initiatives show the party’s commitment to public service, Karra said the devotees of the god and the locals had been facing inconvenience for quite some time, and it was heartening to see that their concerns were addressed through the efforts of Sawhney.
“The public representatives must not only make promises but also ensure that those promises are fulfilled in a timely manner, as trust between the people and their leaders is built through consistent and sincere action,” he said.
Raman Bhalla said that the Congress Party has always believed in working among the people and responding to their needs with sincerity and dedication. He said that the arrangement of the boat is a meaningful step that will directly benefit the devotees of Baba Bhaid Devta and the residents of the surrounding areas who have long required better facilities. Bhalla said that religious and cultural places hold immense significance in the lives of people and it is important that adequate facilities are available so that devotees can visit these places without difficulty or inconvenience.
Former Minister and Ex-MLA Jammu East Yogesh Sawhney, who arranged the boat for the devotees and local population, said that the initiative was taken after repeated interactions with residents and devotees who had highlighted the difficulties they were facing. JKPCC chief spokesman, Ravinder Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
