JAMMU, July 22 : The police had a tough time today to foil an attempt by the Congress to take out a protest march towards Raj Bhawan led by several senior Congress leaders, seeking resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and Supreme Court monitored high level investigation into the  phone tapping episode.

A large number of senior leaders and activists of JK Congress held  a  strong protest  and took out a march towards Raj Bhawan from Congress office Shahidi Chowk  today morning, seeking  Supreme Court monitored investigation  into the phone snooping issue demanding resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.
Congress leaders and activists from DCC Urban and Rural besides Frontal Wings including Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and other Cells, carrying Congress flags and placards and raising slogans seeking Supreme Court monitoring probe into the “PHONE JASUSI KAND” and resignation of  Home Minister, marched towards the Raj Bhawan. A heavy contingent of Police had a tough time to prevent the protestors’ march at Residency Road. The senior leadership of the party also prevented the young cadre from forcibly proceeding ahead and peacefully continued their protest  for over one hour.
They raised strong slogans in favour of their demands besides  raising slogans in favour of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress besides denouncing BJP and the Modi Govt for the alleged telephone snooping of top opposition leaders, Constitutional functionaries, journalists, lawyers and other important personalities in the Country.
Briefing media persons, the chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said  that Congress is fighting for the protection of Constitution, Fundamental Right to Privacy of every citizen and above all the issue of national security involved in the episode. They said that an Israel based Spyware/software – Pegasus  has the  categoric policy of not selling its spying technology & product to any other organization other than sovereign Governments to detect terror and crime, as such all this is not possible without the Govt and its agencies, so it needs to be investigated at the highest level as to under whose command  all this has happened, from prior to general elections, 2019.
He said that as per national and international reports in the media  top opposition leaders including Shri Rahul Gandhi and five members of his staff, several constitutional functionaries and top media organizations, lawyers and judges as well as Ministers in the Modi Govt have been victims of this spying episode which needs independent high level investigation.
Former minister Raman Bhalla while lashing out at BJP Govt over the  snooping issue also  raked up the issue of  recent amendment in Domicile Law granting domicile status to all those marrying the girls of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that step by step the BJP Govt.  is allowing outside residents to grab the resources , jobs and lands of the locals of Jammu and Kashmir which is unjustified.
Prominent among those who took part in the protest include senior leaders Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Manmohan Singh,  TS Bajwa, Hari Singh Chib, Indu Pawar , Udey Chib,  Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Sanjeev Panda,   Sunny Parihar. Suresh Dogra,  Dawarka Choudhary, Satish Sharma, Rajveer Singh and others.
