Police foils workers’ attempt to block Tawi bridge
Seeks immediate restoration of statehood

JAMMU, Oct 19: The heavy contingent of police today foiled an attempt by the Congress workers to hold protest and block Tawi bridge when it prevented the protest march of the senior leaders and large number of workers to proceed ahead, as the party today held a strong protest demonstration, seeking roll back of the decision to impose property tax besides removal of toll plazas and various other unreasonable taxes on the common people of J&K including one time road Tax, hike in stamp duty and Registration Tax and sought immediate restoration of statehood to J&K.
Led by JKPCC vice president and former Minister Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Shiv Dev Singh, Ashok Sharma, Indu Pawar, Ch Gharu Ram and several other prominent leaders, a large number of Congress workers took out a strong protest demonstration at Shahidi Chowk Jammu to register protest over the decision for imposition of property tax besides opposing series of Toll tax, one time road tax, road cubs, higher rates of stamp duty as compared to other UTs and massive hike in registration fee.
Congress leaders and workers charged BJP of unleashing a `Tax terrorism’ in Jammu and Kashmir amidst worst economic crisis in the country apart from Covid-19 crisis and unprecedented price hike. The protestors carried play cards seeking roll back of property tax decision and other taxes besides immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay.
The protestors raised slogans against BJP Govt for anti-people decisions against the various hardships face by the people including economic crisis, worst Covid situation and the unprecedented hike. They marched towards the Tawi bridge to lodge their strong protest against the Centre and UT Administration but the heavy contingent of police deployed there barricaded with barbed wires also to prevent them from proceeding ahead of the residency road. Some workers led by Varun Magotra reached near Jewel Chowk and held protest there.
Similar protest was also held at Katra in District Reasi led by Rajesh Sadotra, president J&K Pradesh Congress Seva Dal. A large number of Congress workers took out a strong protest demonstration by raising slogans against the tax regime. They criticized the Modi led BJP Govt. for imposing heavy taxes of various kinds thus breaking the backbone of common man.
Addressing gathering Raman Bhalla said that the people are suffering due to the tax regime of BJP which is not less than `Tax terrorism’. The people face difficulty in meeting both ends during the manifold increase in prices of all commodities.
Prominent among others who participated include Shashi Sharma, Thomas Khokhar, Sarfraz Malik, Dr Rama Kant Khajuria, Rajvir Singh, Gajan Singh, Rashpal Singh Chib, Prem Sharma, Amrit Bali, Uttam Singh, Dewan Chand, Satish Sharma, Kulbushan Sharma, Sushma Choudhary, Bharat Priye and others.
