JAMMU, July 2: Congress continued protest against price hike of petrol and diesel by holding series of protests for the fourth consecutive day in various parts of J&K, like some other parts of the country.
In Jammu , the protest was organized by Block president Satwari Amrit Bali and Block president Gangyal Satish Sharma at Karan Bagh, Chatha Morh in Satwari area. It was joined by senior leaders led by Raman Bhalla former minister and District president Jammu Urban , Yogesh Sawhney.

Carrying placards the Congress activists raised slogans against BJP Govt but was stopped by heavy deployment of police while moving towards Satwari Chowk. However, they submitted a memorandum to Additional Development Commissioner, Jammu demanding rollback of hiked prices of fuel.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that during the Manmohan Singh Government the per barrel price of crude oil had peaked at 143 dollar and then stabilised at 120 dollar and per litre petrol price was Rs 73 and the BJP had launched an agitation at the time. “Today, the petrol rate is Rs 83 per litre but BJP leaders are silent. Considering the reduction in crude oil prices, petrol prices can be reduced by at least Rs 10, but the BJP Govt is not prepared to help people. On the contrary, Modi Govt has raised excise on petrol and diesel several times,” he maintained.
Block Congress Committees of R S Pura and Suetchgarh today intensified protest against the continuous hike in fuel prices across the country, demanding rollback on the prices.
Led by DCC Jammu Rural president, Hari Singh Chib, the senior Congress leaders and other party activists assembled near the office of SDM RS Pura and raised slogans against the BJP Government over the rising fuel prices across the country.
Ch Garu Ram, former minister, Pawan Sharma secretary PCC, Sushma Choudhary District president Mahila Congress, PCC secretary Ramesh Motton, Karan Bhagat, Ravinder Singh senior vice president District Jammu Rural, Ch Mohan Singh vice president DCC Rural, Darshan Mehra president BCC RS Pura, Jung Bahadur , president Youth Congress Jammu Rural, Neeraj Choudhary and other senior party workers joined the protest rally.
Chib blamed the Centre for increasing the fuel prices for three-weeks straight at a time when global oil prices were low. He said the country is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Central and State Governments are increasing fuel prices. The Govt should reduce fuel prices and provide relief to people, he added.
Later, Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to SDM RS Pura for the President of India, seeking immediate roll back on petrol-diesel prices.
