SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Lashing out at BJP- RSS over vitiating atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood in the Country for power, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir has said this is the appropriate time for secular, right thinking people to defeat the designs of communal and fascist forces.
While speaking at a function organized to commemorate 101 Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi at Party headquarters Srinagar today, Mir and other Party functionaries emphasized the Party cadre to defeat the designs of the Saffron Party, which is hell bent upon to divide people on religious and regional lines to serve it’s dirty political ends.
PCC chief paying floral tributes to Indira Gandhi, expressed serious concern over the rising intolerance under BJP rule, which is being encouraged to polarize the situation for political gains, saying that the secular identity of the Country is in danger under BJP regime and time has come when all the right-thinking, secular people should rise to the occasion to defeat the communal and fascist agenda of Saffron Party, which can go to any extent for the sake of power. Mir reiterated his appeal to people to rise to the occasion to defeat the conspiracies being hatched by the BJP to divide people for electoral gains.

Recalling the services and sacrifices of Indira Gandhi, Mir said that Nation has lost a strong and a great leader in the assassination of Indira Ji. He recalled her several bold decisions taken for the welfare of the country.
PCC spokesperson Farooq Andrabi, senior leader GN Mir Lasjan, Shameema Iqbal, Haji Farooq Mir, Zahid Hussain Jan, Gulam Mohi- U- Din Bhat, Abdul Qayoom Shah, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, Sahil Farooq, Nissar Khan, Shameema Raina, Sara Bilal, Haseena Ali and others were also present.
Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid to Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, on her birth anniversary today. Congress organized several functions across the State, to celebrate the day and an impressive function was held at PCC office Shahidi Chowk, Jammu.
The function was organized by the District Congress Jammu Urban and Rural led by Vikram Malhotra and Hari Singh Chib. Senior PCC leaders Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Madan Lal Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Shiv Dev Singh, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat, Raqeeq Khan (NSUI), were the prominent who paid tributes to Smt Indira Gandhi.
While speaking on the occasion Peerzada recalled the bold leadership of Indira Gandhi, as she led the nation to great heights in the world and took courageous decisions in her life for the might of the nation. The country progressed on all fronts and faced numerous challenges successfully. He lashed out at those forces who are trying to belittle the role and great works of top stalwarts of Congress especially Nehru – Gandhi leadership for political vested interests.
Madan Lal Sharma (Ex-MP) lashed out at the BJP and Modi Govt for their attempts to tarnish the image of the Congress party and its leaders by distorting history and said that time has come to strengthen the ideology and principles followed by the Congress and its great leaders for strengthening the secularism, socialism and inclusive democracy.
Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla -PCC vice presidents, while paying floral tributes described Indira Gandhi as a dynamic and visionary leader who remained committed to the secular and socialist ideals of the party and worked for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden in the country. She launched various programmes for the upliftment of the poor and the weaker sections of the society. The country progressed on all fronts under her leadership.
Prominent among others who attended the function included Krishan Lal Gupta, Shashi Sharma, Satish Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Suresh Dogra, Thomas Khoker, Ricky Dalotra, Rajinder Singh Pinky, Dr Ramakant Khajuria, ML Malagar, Ch Sukhdev Singh, PS Chohan, Mian Nazir Ahmed, JL Koul, Gourav Chopra, Jyoti Vaid, Yudhvir Singh, Vijay Singh Chib and others.
A function in this connection was also organized at Sunderbani, by Block Congress Committee in district Rajouri in which former MLC and PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma was the chief guest. Large number of people including Ex-Sarpanchs and Ex-Panchs attended the function and paid rich tributes to Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary, today.
Similar functions were held at Udhampur under the leadership of Ex-MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat, at Dayala Chak in Kathua led by Ex-MLC Subhash Gupta, at Vijaypur in Samba under DCC president S. Manjit Singh, at Kishtwar under DCC president Mohinder Singh Parihar, Doda, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch as well.
All India Rajiv Gandhi Brigade state unit led by Virender Singh Manhas also paid rich tributes to Late India Gandhi on her birth anniversary. Joginder Singh Manhas, chief patron and Vinod Kohli general secretary, besides Sanjay Jandial and Romesh Sharma were also present.
