JAMMU, Jan 22: Congress and NC members today raised border firing issue in the Upper House and demanded setting up of Joint House Committee which would visit border areas and migrant camps and submit a report to the Government suggesting measures.
The issue was raised by Congress members Naresh Gupta and Ghulam Nabi Monga, Shehnaz Ganai from NC supported by others in the opposition, demanding that a House Committee on the directions of Chairman should be allowed to visit to such areas.
When the Upper House commenced its normal business in the morning, Naresh Gupta invited attention of Government towards Pakistani firing and killing of innocent civilians and exodus of thousands of people. He said that Government must reply and also take affective measures. Monga demanded that a House Committee which will visit border area and camps and inform Government about the miseries of the people.
Shehnaz Ganai expressed concern over firing in Poonch LoC areas and demanded that peace be restored on borders and miseries of the people be minimized. The Chairman however rejected the demand and said that Government was looking into the matter.
