Cong MP projects ex-servicemen’s issues

JAMMU, Sept 29: Member Parliament Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency, Madan Lal Sharma (Cong) strongly projected the issues of the ex-servicemen of the region and sought early redressal of the same.
Addressing a large gathering of former soldiers under the banner of J&K Ex-Servicemen League here today, the Congress MP strongly raised the voice for the issues of ex-servicemen. He demanded immediate waiver of VAT from Canteen Stores of J&K on the pattern of States like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. He also demanded that reservation of ex-servicemen withdrawn by the J&K Government be restored and the quota for them be enhanced on the pattern of other States of the country. MP also endorsed the demand of raising percentage of quota ( 6%) of the ex-servicemen in police jobs.
Mr Sharma further demanded upgradation of Mahavir Chakra award of Brig Rajinder Singh to Paramveer Chakra for his supreme sacrifice enabling accession of J&K with the Union of India.
While condemning terrorists attack on Hiranmagar Police Station and Army camp at Samba, the MP charged Pakistan with waging war like cowards. He at the same time asked the security agencies to strengthen their grid to thwart any such act of the militants being sent from the Pakistani soil to India.
Earlier, Maj Gen (Retd) G S Jamwal, president of the League in his address appreciated the works of the MP in his constituency and accorded gratitude for rendering support to the ex-servicemen. He also submitted a memorandum to the MP for the Union Defence Minister for strengthening of 129 Inf Battalion, ECO JAK LI, raising Disaster Management Batta-lions for dealing with both internal and external situation and establishment of defence ordinance factory at Jammu.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu, Brig Kartar Singh, senior vice president of the League ( Delhi), Brig R S Langeh, Director Sainik Welfare Deptt, Brig S S Sambyal and Brig Raj Singh Jamwal, Col Karan Singh and Col K S Jamwal were also present.
