JAMMU, Sept 14: Congress has expressed concern over the circumstances forcing the Principal Government Medical College Jammu to offer voluntary retirement amidst the grim COVID situation and urged for close coordination and cooperation at all levels to minimize the sufferings of the people.
Reacting to the development, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma questioned the circumstances forcing such a senior and committed doctor to offer to quit and asked the Lt Governor to immediately intervene to improve the facilities and working of the Health Department, as the issues raised by the head of the institution need to be seriously taken.
He said that the facilities and additional infrastructure was better created in Kashmir, which is good but why there are shortcomings of such a kind in Jammu hospitals which is serious concern for all.
The patients are facing acute hardships on account of inadequate facilities and manpower for which the Government is answerable, he added.
He sought a probe into reports of malfunctioning of the oxygen plants installed only five years back and why such a plant was not installed in the CD Hospital, converted into COVID Hospital. He also questioned as why Jammu is lagging behind in terms of upgradation of facilities created in the wake of covid threat during past six months and why to shift the blame on the hospital authorities alone and it should go or be shared where it deserves.
