JAMMU/SRINAGAR, June 20: The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party today held strong protest demonstrations at Jammu, Srinagar and other parts of J&K UT, against Modi Govt’s Agnipath Scheme for the youth for recruitment in Defence Forces in the country.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir addressed hundreds of party leaders and workers on “Satyagrah” protest against the so called `AGNIPATH Scheme’at Jantar Mantar.

Mir termed Agnipath Scheme another betrayal by Modi Govt and demanded its immediate roll back. He expressed serious concern over the disappointment being witnessed amongst the youth in the country due to Agnipath Scheme brought by the Modi Govt, as that, the aspiring youth who are interested to join the Army have started feeling that their future is bleak due to the new Army recruitment scheme.
On the call of AICC, J&K Congress held peaceful protest at Jammu against the “anti-youth” Agnipath scheme and the Central government’s “vendetta politics” targeting party leader Rahul Gandhi, who is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
The protest was led by JKPCC working president Raman Bhall and joined by PCC vice presidents Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan, PCC general secretaries Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Ved Mahajan (Ex-MLC), Indu Pawar (Mahila Congress), DCC president Jammu Rural Hari Singh Chib, Dr RK Khajuria, Pawan Raina and many others.
While addressing media persons during protest, Bhalla said lakhs of Congress workers across the country today held peaceful protests against the anti-youth Agnipath Scheme and against Modi Government’s vendetta politics targeting its MP Rahul Gandhi and in the evening, Congress delegation will also meet Rashtrapati and submit a memorandum on the issue of entry of Delhi Police into their party headquarters and the alleged misbehaviour with party MPs during protests against Rahul Gandhi’s ED questioning.
JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Ex MLC led a protest rally by Youth Congress & NSUI at Sunderbani against the Agnipath Scheme and vindictive policies of Modi Govt towards opposition. Sharma blamed the Central Government of trying to crush the voice of the youth by involving army and administration to terrorise the youth of spoiling their career for peaceful procession and protest.
In Leh, Ladakh Territorial Congress Committee (LTTC) while demanding roll back on Agnipath Scheme said that it would not only worsen the unemployment crisis in the country but also National security would be compromised.
Addressing media persons LTTC president, Nawang Rigzin Jora flanked by Congress veteran Ex-MLA Tsering Samphel said that four year service in Indian Army through Agniveer will not have the same patriotic feeling and dedication they have now in their service towards the Nation. He added that out of four year service, four month will go in training and five months in vocation/holiday which leaves only 3 years of service and all the retired Army officers are already objecting to this new scheme but serving officers are forced to give statement in favour. He said Army services require highly motivated youth with job security and pension facility and if the government don’t roll back the schemes, situation will go worse in future. He questioned why this scheme applies to jawans only and not the commissioned officers.
Meanwhile, a large number of youth activists of AAP across the country held a protest demonstration against the government, demanding a rollback on “contractualization” of jobs in the Army.
Aam Aadmi Party held strong protests against Agnipath, the scheme to recruit soldiers on a four-year contract basis. AAP urged the Centre Government to withdraw the scheme considering national interest.
AAP youth activists gathered at 4th Tawi bridge in Jammu and tried to join Aam Aadmi Party protest at Press Club. Large numbers of Police Cops reached the spot, and resorted to mild lathi charge and detained Partap Singh Jamwal alon gwith Bhanu Partap Goria with two Aap volunteers.
In Poonch also, AAP activists led by senior leader Farooq Bandey held protest and demanded roll back of the new Agnipath scheme of the Modi Govt.
Meanwhile, expressing great disappointment over the Central Govt’s Agnipath Scheme, senior NC leader from Poonch, Javed Rana its immediate withdrawal.
In a press statement Rana said that the this new Army recruitment scheme should be scrapped for the sake of country’s security. He further said that the recruitment of the permanent soldiers should be conducted as per past practice as it was not held during past two years.
