This refers to your editorial, Illegal constructions in Patnitop ( Daily Excelsior 5.1.2020). During last 5 months of turmoil in Kashmir illegal constructions have gained momentum especially in tourist places. It is not only Patnitop where illegal constructions have taken place but there are illegal constructions taking place in Gulmarg , Sonamarg and Pahalgam also. Daily Excelsior also filed a report on illegal constructions in Gulmarg on 6.1.2020. In Srinagar Dal lake area and other places illegal construction has gone unnoticed.
Forests in Raithan Range and Doodh Ganga Range in Budgam district have been vandalized by timber smugglers around August , September and October 2019. Even now the illegal felling of trees is going on and local forest officials including Range Officer and DFO are mute spectators to all this. The forest officers and police are in league with timber smugglers and nobody is taking these officers to task.
Being son of the soil my heart bleeds when i hear news about all these illegal activities and the only way to vent my anger is to write letters to Daily Excelsior who carry it regularly. I hope Govt will take notice of my letters. I appeal LG Mr Murmu to inquire into illegal constructions and illegal felling of forest trees through an independent agency like CBI or Crime Branch. Let the property of the corrupt officers who cause huge loss to state exchequer be confiscated.
