JAMMU, Sept 15: Devasthan Prabandhak Committee Bijbehara Anantnag district of South Kashmir and Shree Shiva Bhagwati Asthapan Akingam Trust also in the same district have expressed grave concern over the encroachment of land of religious places by Government agencies and land mafia.
In their separate statements they demanded immediate restoration of land belonging to Hindu religious shrines in the Bijbehara township and village Akingam.
Devasthan Prabandhak Committee Bijbehara in its statement has expressed serious concern over the demolition of a plateau at Bijbehara on which a famous Hindu Temple of Goddess Mata Vijaya Devi who is one of the prominent deities of Hindus exist. It said the town which came into existence near it is known as Vijeshwara presently Bijbehara. It was a seat of learning during ancient times. The land over the top and surrounding areas falls in Khasra No 602 of Jablipora Halqa belongs to the Pandit Community. The demolition drive will not only deprive the town of its natural beauty but also hurt the sentiments of Pandits of Kashmir.
The Committee termed the excavation at the site illegal saying no environment clearance as well as from the owners of the land was sought.
Shiva Bhagwati Trust Akingam while expressing its concern over the increasing land mafia activities with an open eye on religious land of Hindus said that 11 kanals and five marlas of land belonging to cremation ground of Hindu Biradri in the area has been encroached by two brothers who have decided to construct a bridge and pathway over here. The Trust urged the Government to get the acts stopped at once failing which entire Pandit community will come on streets.
